DAM-ATOLL

Ocean Wave Energy Extraction Device

Dam-Atoll

may be up for the worst pun of the year award (every year, in fact); nonetheless, this artificial submerged atoll invented by L.S. Wirt extracts an amazing amount of energy from the oceans without polluting the air with a single molecule of zero carbon dioxide. As gasoline prices continue to go up, as the earth's oil reserves continue to dwindle, as the polar ice-caps continue to melt because of fossil-fuel-induced global warming, Dam-Atoll is poised to become a key player in the alternative energy arena.

Energy Efficiency:

The working scale model of Dam-Atoll was 25% efficient at converting wave energy to work (mechanical energy). We are confident that further refinements will get this percentage up to 50%. As a basis of comparison, the efficiency of a gasoline motor is somewhere between 15% to 35% in converting the energy of gasoline to work—an efficiency that carries a terrible price tag resulting from the output of global-warming gases and other harmful pollutants.
